Travel Wishlist – Let’s go to Iceland

These past few days I have just gotten this urge to travel to Iceland, for some reason? I don’t know what it is, but there’s just something about this breathtaking country that is calling my name and do I seriously wish I can just book a ticket right now and go explore the beautiful “Land of Fire and Ice”. Doesn’t that sound epic?

You’d think because it’s called Iceland that there would be plenty of ice everywhere, but that’s not entirely the case, in fact, Greenland is very icy and Iceland is very green. Iceland has the most vast landscapes that just are so simplified and wild and I think that is what completely draws me in. Oh and also don’t forget how interesting this country is – you might be wondering why it’s known as “The Land of Fire and Ice” and also the land of light and darkness?

Well, Iceland has some of the world’s largest active volcanoes and also some of the largest glaciers in all of Europe. In summertime you definitely won’t have a vitamin D deficiency, cause you get to have nearly 24 hours of sunshine, but you better soak it up because when the cold, winter days come, you’ll only get a few hours of sunlight.

How stunning is this photograph of British photograher, James Appleton – the northern lights and an erupted volcano in one photo?!

I have heard a few times that Iceland is one of the happiest countries in the world! That’s probably because of their good living quality and they’re also very generous people – more reasons why I want to travel there! Did you know that the Icelandic language is actually one of the least changed languages of the Nordic countries and they try their best to keep it that way! That’s pretty awesome.

I just can’t get over how unbelievably, breathtakingly BEAUTIFUL this country is!!!

If I were ever to visit Iceland, I’d definitely want to visit and explore the capital, Reykjavík, see the classical Blue Lagoon and of course, the most magical and breathtaking of them all, the Northern Lights.

Iceland reminds me so much of the ancient times and it really is still so “ancient” if I can put it that way. The fact that they preserve their language and traditions, they have a very organic diet and way of life and I respect them for that. Despite the fact that so many countries around the world have been influenced so much by the new modern age in terms of language, traditions and just the general way of life, Iceland has developed into a country with a high quality lifestyle for entirety of the country, without having to throw away their original/ancestral language, traditions and general lifestyle. And I just love that.

Don’t you think this looks like the perfect spot to set up a camp?

(As per usual, all of the photographs are not mine, I found them on Google Images and do not know who the original photographers/owners of each photo are – so all credits to them. All I know is that they were super lucky to have been able to visit Iceland (: )

  1. I’ve not been there. A friend who has recommends setting aside three weeks,- and a fair amount of $ (like $2K). This person visited Reykjavik, Keflavik, the Reykjanes Peninsula, did the coastal loop road and spent a week exploring the interior glacier. Then, of course, there is Westmannaeyjar (where a new island emerged from undersea, in the 1970’s).

    1. You should totally visit Iceland if you can 😊 I also rather enjoy warmer temperatures, but I don’t think I’d be too bothered if I could go to Iceland 🙈😊

  4. I’ve been to Iceland and it is just absolutely amazing. You can have anything from crazy nightlife in Reykjavik to the smallest and quietest towns ever. Seeing these photos really makes me wanna go back soon!! The nature is incredible and no picture could capture it in its natural, wild beauty. I can only recommend to go there, it will sure meet your expectations! The blue lagoon is definitely worth a visit, it is an experience you won’t get anywhere else.

  7. Iceland is amazing! I was there in late December with my girlfriend. We saw the Northern Lights, the Geyser, black sand beach and numerous waterfalls. It’s absolutely breathtaking. As some people have already said, being there is pretty expensive…but it’s most definitely worth it! 😊

  8. With Kailash mansarovar Yatra close by, you can visit places like Kailash Mansarovar temple, GauriKund Mansarovar lake etc. You can include yourself in various exercises like scuba plunging, skiing, watching of attractive birds and hunting animals, snorkeling, stream skiing, parasailing, water boating and paragliding.

  10. I highly recommend Iceland! We had a lovely time and it’s super beautiful!! We went in winter but ended up snowed in in the north because of a storm. If I were going again I would recommend going in the summer and hiking and taking a tent! You would save a fortune and see so much more of the country on your own two feet
